They are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/adrianharris.org\/blog\/2018\/08\/16\/the-sit-spot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sit spot<\/a><\/li><li>Story of the day<\/li><li>Expanding\u00a0sensory\u00a0awareness<\/li><li>Questioning\u00a0and tracking<\/li><li>Animal\u00a0forms<\/li><li>Wandering<\/li><li>Mapping<\/li><li>Exploring\u00a0field\u00a0guides<\/li><li>Journalling<\/li><li>Survival\u00a0living<\/li><li>Minds eye\u00a0imagining<\/li><li>Listening for bird language<\/li><li>Thanksgiving<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Regularly&nbsp;practising just some of these&nbsp;powerful techniques&nbsp;will deepen your connection with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of them look&nbsp;familiar: Thanksgiving, for example, is part of every spiritual path and you probably have memories of wandering or telling&nbsp;the story of the day if only from childhood.&nbsp;A few may strike you as odd: What&nbsp;would&nbsp;it&nbsp;mean&nbsp;to practice animal&nbsp;forms or survival&nbsp;living?&nbsp;Your&nbsp;tribal ancestors&nbsp;would&nbsp;be able to tell you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Core&nbsp;routines&nbsp;were developed by the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wildernessawareness.org\/\">Wilderness Awareness School<\/a> under the guidance of Jon Young. Jon draws his inspiration from his childhood mentoring by tracker Tom Brown&nbsp;Jr., who was in turn&nbsp;taught&nbsp;by Stalking Wolf, an Apache elder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Native American&nbsp;teaching forms the&nbsp;foundation&nbsp;of Jon\u2019s work, he draws&nbsp;from ancient and modern&nbsp;nature connection&nbsp;strategies from around the world: Jon is as&nbsp;likely&nbsp;to tell a story about about the Kalahari Bushman as he is to reference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecopsychology.org.uk\/related-disciplines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ecopsychology<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve trained with&nbsp;Jon and use the&nbsp;Core routines \u2013 and much more \u2013 in my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adrianharris.org\/events.htm\">nature connection workshops<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The sit spot is one of 13 core routines&nbsp;described&nbsp;in Coyote\u2019s&nbsp;Guide&nbsp;to Connecting with Nature.
